This is the most recent Ian Douglas series, similar in tone to the Galactic Marines books, but set in a whole new universe, with different aliens, a different history, and a different look at human technology. It follows the exploits of the officers and crew of a space-faring spacecraft carrier -- think Battlestar Galactica without the Cylons and the feldercarb. The first entry is Earth Strike; it covers desperate battles for survival against a superior enemy at both Eta Bootis and in our own Solar System.  The second book in the series, Center of Gravity, hit number 22 on the New York Times Bestseller List on its first week out!  This is wildly wonderful for a military science-fiction story!  The conclusion of the first trilogy, Singularity, came out in February 2012, and book 4, Deep Space, in April 2013.

In the April 15, 2013 edition, (online March 31, 2013), Kirkus gave Deep Space a Starred Review ("awarded to Books of Exceptional Merit").
And on November 18, 2013, Kirkus named it one of the ten best SF books of 2013!

The third trilogy in the series is forthcoming.
